It’s a hedge, it’s groundcover and it’s a container joy
All-America Selections (AAS) Winner 2002
Fleuroselect Novelty Award winner 2001
Like the essence of moonlight, these silvery blooms with deep purple centers and wispy purple veining create a peaceful, elegant atmosphere in any setting. And “any setting” is just where you can grow them—from containers to bedding to trellises to edging, Tidal Wave Silver fits them all. Amazingly versatile, it is called a “hedgiflora”—but we just call it “wonderful”.
The blooms range from 2 to 2? inches across, and some are deeply blushed with purple while others are nearly pure white. The silver tone is utterly unique, complementing other spreading petunias very well and making a nice companion both to light- and dark-toned designs. These blooms aren’t shrinking violets, either—they stand up to summer storms beautifully, bouncing back from rain and wind without turning a petal. Expect a long summer season of bloom in the sunny yard or patio.
The plant itself is as much of a star as its flowers, offering an adaptable habit completely unlike other Petunias’. Spaced closely together, the plants form an upright mound or even a low hedge, drenched with silvery blooms and utterly charming. Set against a trellis and given a little help to get started, it forms a floriferous climber. Widely spaced in bed or border, it creeps along as a lovely ground cover. And then there’s its “traditional” use as a trailing Petunia in baskets, planters, and other containers.
Tidal Wave Silver is an All America Selection winner, and we predict it will be the spreading petunia of choice for gardeners looking for something a little distinctive in the garden. It is superbly botrytis-resistant (which is enough to convince us, even without any other merits, that we must have it) and very long-blooming. In short, a highly adaptable, vigorous, gorgeous petunia you really should try. Pair it with its new award-winning sister, Tidal Wave Velour. Plant in full sun, feed and water it well all season, and you will be rewarded with masses upon masses of moonlight-bright blooms.
This seed comes as a “pellet”. “Pelleted” seeds are small seeds that have been clay-coated to make them larger and more uniform in size and shape, making them easier to handle when planting.
