Compact zinnia that packs some serious color
Days to Maturity: 60 to 70
AAS Winner 1963
Do you love zinnias but don’t like how tall they can get? Thumbelina is an award-winning dwarf variety that packs some serious color in a compact plant that starts setting blooms at only 3 inches tall.
Zinnias create colorful flowerbeds and eye-catching containers. The globe-shaped flowers come in vibrant shades of white, yellow, peach, orange, rose pink, hot pink, and scarlet, all with a yellow center. There’s a color for everyone, and every pollinator, in this mix. The blooms are especially attractive to butterflies, and they’re ideal cut flowers, for crafters and florists alike.
These easy to grow annuals thrive with minimal care. Plant them into maintained beds and layer with mulch to control weeds. Removing blooms will encourage the plant to create more blooms. Sow seeds indoors to get blooms faster. Seeds will germinate within 7 to 10 days and can be moved into the garden once the threat of frost has passed.
Plants can also be started indoors and planted outdoors after the risk of frost has passed. If you plan to start your seeds indoors, be sure to check out our Bio Dome Seed Starter Kit. With the Bio Dome, you can control the temperature, light, and soil mix to ensure your seeds become strong for transplant.
