Seven Swans a-Swimming in Your Garden!
125 days from direct-sowing.
Just the gourd to grow for a child’s class, a craft project, or holiday decorating, Speckled Swan is indeed shaped just like a full-bodied, long-necked swan. The neck even produces a small terminal bulb just before the stem, suggesting a head gently inclined to tuck under its wing!
This green lagenaria gourd grows easily and in great abundance, reaching 12 to 15 inches high with an elegantly bent neck and a plump “body.” Now you can have your own “seven swans a-swimming” just in time for the holidays, decorate a family of swans for the patio or deck, or simply enjoy the beautiful look and shape of this very long-lasting gourd!
Sow seeds directly into the garden after the soil has warmed. Gourds are squash, very easy to grow in full sun with lots of space or a trellis to grow the vines vertically. Speckled Swan is best grown on a support, because the fruit can dangle without becoming flattened on one side by the ground. It takes a while to mature, but when it turns dark green, weighs about 3 pounds, and reaches at least 3 inches wide at the base (sometimes much wider), you will know it’s time to harvest this hard-shelled beauty! Pkt is 25 seeds.
